International Law

Our firm represents clients with international legal needs or problems. Our firm has a broad array of international clients and local clients with transnational requirements. We specialize in networking with international legal professionals in the countries we have operated within. Our legal staff is adept at working with foreign court systems through coordination with local attorneys and obtaining favorable results even within underdeveloped nations.

Our senior attorney is the recipient of the Smith N. Crowe scholar award of International Law. He has worked with or managed foreign litigation within European, African, Pacific Rim, South and Central American court systems. We have secured judgments in U.S. Courts for both United States and foreign citizens and then obtained, first recognition, then enforcement of those judgments in foreign countries. We worked through military justice systems abroad concerning a wide variety of military-related issues as they relate to family and criminal difficulties. We do not, however, practice before Military tribunals.

We pride ourselves in our sensitivity to international protocols, customs, politics and other potential barriers to proper understanding and positive results.. We work patiently with our foreign clientele as we overcome language, cultural and political difficulties..

While none of the attorneys are fluent in foreign language we have excellent working relationships with legally trained translators in many of the major languages.

As shown below, our experience with international matters is broad and varied, granting us contacts with attorneys all across the world and providing us with the capability to assist our clients in situations outside the borders of the United States.

Representative Cases:

  • Our client was health care provider in the Phillippines who purchased a large Chicago hospital that had fallen into bankruptcy and required that it be moved, in its entirety, to the Phillippines, within 120 days. Mission accomplished.
  • Our client was a European doctor who desired discovery of the existence of assets from an inheritance in Belgium and Africa. which required legal investigation efforts in Belgium, France, Luxemburg, Switzerland and Greece. We coordinated the efforts.
  • Our client was the victim of fraudulent trade practices by a European computer parts distributor. We worked with Interpol for the investigation and then made the necessary arrangements for the resulting criminal complaint.
  • Our client fled Africa to the US and we obtained a substantial judgment against the American oppressor domiciled in Africa in our United States court which resulted in passport denial to the offender.
  • Our client is local manufacturer who has outsourced his processes to China for international distribution to an international clientele. Intellectual property rights were at issue.
  • Our firm has helped secure the return of two children in international kidnapping situations and is experienced with working with international child recovery services and utilizing overseas military and diplomatic arms for assistance along with self-help methods.
  • We represent the major health care administrator for overseas health care delivery to retired military veterans in third world countries.
  • We have assisted an Indian company victimized by embezzlement in the US and a domestic company victimized by embezzlement abroad. We obtained justice through the US court system for both.
  • We have represented international clients in Missouri family law courts from England, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Russia, Norway, France, Israel, Phillippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Iran, Panama, Colombia, Mexico, Jamaica, Canada, India, Uganda and South Africa. Many of those cases involved transnational property and child custody issues.
  • Our client purchased water pipe from a foreign manufacturer for installation into a regional water system. The pipe was defective. We succeeded in forcing the manufacturer to pay the cost of the pipe and the cost of installation and removal of the original, defective pipe.
  • Our client sells medical and laboratory equipment by the internet worldwide. We helped it establish safe business practices that prevented hacking and fraud.
